What?! Bounces Back

Coming off the disappointing result a week ago, What?! arrived at the field on Sunday morning (that's right, the MORNING, as in close to 11:59 AM'ish) determined to revert back to their winning ways. A formidable obstacle stood in the way of their goal, as they would have to start the new winning streak by beating the sole undefeated team in the league, Sexy Coco. Nonetheless, undeterred by the challenge presented in front of them, the team showed up early to practice stretch out their hammys and overcome their hangovers stiff limbs.

The game started off well as What?!'s defense came up with a quick stop giving the offense an opportunity to shine and atone for previous week's struggles. Step by step, and inch by inch, the offense moved the ball down the field, gaining confidence with each completed pass. Soon, the west coast offense marched the ball towards the red zone of their opponents, where female QB extraordinaire Tara threw a beautiful jump-ball in the end-zone where Eric A jumped, outfought his defender, and came down with the touchdown grab.

As it turned out, that was all the points the needed for the day as they shutout their 2nd opponent of the season. The defense came up big again and racked up 4 more picks for the season. Meanwhile, on the defensive line, the team seemed to have found a replacement for Chris, as Janine harassed the opposition QB all day and was officially credited with 2 sacks (she claims more, but the ref disagreed). The only bit of offense Sexy Coco was able to muster (albeit without their normal starting QB) was 2 drives to What?!'s redzone, which resulted in a turnover on downs (receiver made great effort to catch the ball but come down out of bounds) and a red zone interception by Felix.

While their opponents couldn't do much on offense, What?! was somewhat out of sync trying to score as well. There were many missed opportunities for the offense, ones which they know they have to capitalize on when and if they face this team again. Nevertheless, there were some positives on the day. In addition to the first successful drive of the game, the offense was able able to chew up the clock at the end of the game and put together a drive culminating in a touchdown to Bekim. Also, the girls chipped in big time, as Alison and Janine each made many catches throughout the game while Tara had a monstrous day passing the ball. In addition to Bekim's continued offense stat padding, Brad chipped in with 4 catches as well.

Speaking of Brad, someone on the other team took issue with the ease of how he was getting his catches. So if the other team's defense was Pedro Cerrano aka President Palmer and can't hit a breaking ball for his life, Brad was expected to throw him everything but a breaking ball, or in other words, go where he would be covered instead of the defense adjusting to cover him. It was certainly the first time I've heard such a thing in sports. Makes total sense. Maybe that kid should pray to Jobu and offer some rum and cigars. It might work better.

"Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curveball"

PLAY OF THE GAME: Felix's interception at the goal-line with honorable mention going to Tara's toss to Eric A for a TD
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Tara's for her awesome passing AND Janine for her all around performance on defense and offense

Lastly, some good news as the Hot Route team that beat us lost for the 2nd time, which puts us into a 3 way tie for first place. If we win out the last 2 games, we have a high chance of getting the #1 seed for playoffs, definitely something worthwhile to think about and work for.
