What?! Rewrites Ending For Untouchables

Untouchables is one my my favorite movies of all time. Featuring the studly cast of Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, Sergio Garcia, and Robert DeNiro, the classic cops and gangster movie elicits images of baseball bat head bashing and horseback charging Canadian Royal Mounties.

This past Sunday, What?! was scheduled to face Eliott Ness and company in a battle of epic proportions. Unfortunately, due to massive lameness aka scheduling conflicts and various parties, the team was reduced to a paper thin roster starring a QB and "The Magnificent Seven." This, combined with the team's lackluster performance from the previous week, posed a interesting challenge for the burgundy bunch.

Nonetheless, after getting fired up earlier in the day by trucking some girl, who ran into 2nd base, standing up, trying to break up a double play in softball, Felix laid out some game plan adjustments to make the offense more explosive and defense more aggressive. In addition, the team planned to implement several better designed option plays to take advantage of the team's speed.

46 minutes later, What?! emerged as big winners of the resulted heavyweight versus lightweight slug-fest, socking their opponents repeatedly, in the face. What?!'s offensive drives were quicker paced, fast striking, and full of big plays. It was the first game the team had rendered that second volunteer ref pretty much useless with the famous "10 seconds" left warning in 3 seasons. Spreading the ball around, What?! also caused mass confusion for their opponent's defense with their multiple run pass options plays. Albeit with more work needed on converting short/goal-line/extra point plays, the offense was able to point up 4 TDs, even after narrowly missing on several deep bombs.

Defensively, a combination of aggressive pass coverage and relentless pass rush by Lauren led to 6 interceptions, including one pick six by Matt who was pulling double duty. The defense was especially tough in the red zone as they got half the picks in that area. It is also important to note that the only touchdown scored by Untouchables came on a dubious call as their receiver clearly landed on the line out of bounds on the catch. While the results were impressive, the defense still had areas to improve, as the cover 2 continued to be susceptible to deep routes splitting the coverage.

All in all, What?! played a good game, resulting in the 32-6 win.

Notes of interest from the game:
  • Individual stats were recalled from memory and wound up very close to totals from all our previous games, eerily impressive
  • Eric S has scored a touchdown in every game of the season
  • Alja's hot streak as QB continues, tossing another TD
  • Eric A threw his 1st TD of the season
  • Alison remains the hot reciever among the girls
  • Alex stuffed the stat sheet with defensive stats again, as well as chipping in big time on offense

Improvements to be added:
  • Wrinkles to run pass option offense
  • Using man and "Box And 1" in addition to base cover 2 and cover 3 defense
  • Maximize use of sidelines

Also, mid-season stat update will be posted later this week. Some very interesting stuff.

PLAY OF THE GAME: Matt muffing the punt / Matt giving the ball back to the other team right after Alja makes an interception
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Eric S for his ninja offense performance, continuing to put up big offensive numbers in a quiet manner, and also putting the moves on the other team to score his 2nd TD of the day
